- Application are open between April 1st and May 15 of every year for the first cycle, second cycle opens in October.
- No exams are required to begin either observership or internship.
- However, all exams(CAMCE/USMLE/PLAB) must be completed by the end of internship to advance to SHO year. Failing these exams will require repeating the internship year.
- You usually get an email stating which hospital you have been placed, when you will begin internship and where to register at least one week before your start date. Which is typically in July/August.

- Before your internship year, you'll receive a provisional medical license (for $5000 JMD). This allows you to work as a doctor in the public health sector, but you cannot write prescriptions or operate a private practice on your own.
- You may apply for internship/observership before graduating, but you must submit your degree to the MOH immediately upon receiving it.
- After completing all required rotations and passing your exams at the end of internship year, you can apply for your full medical license.
- Poor performance in any rotation during internship may result in failure, requiring an extension of your internship period.
