🇯🇲 Guide for Overseas IMGs in Jamaica

This space breaks down the journey for overseas international medical graduates (IMGs) seeking medical registration in Jamaica.

If you completed your medical degree at a non–CAAM-HP accredited institution, here’s the general sequence:

  1. Final-Year Clerkship – Completed at the end of med school (locally or abroad).
  2. **Observership (4 months- paid or unpaid)** – Mandatory if you didn’t attend a CAAM-HP accredited school and did not do medical clerkship in Jamaica.
  3. **Internship (1 year, paid)** – Must rotate through Internal Med, Surgery, Peds, and OBGYN.
  4. Licensing Exams – CAMCE / PLAB / USMLE must be passed before the end of internship.
  5. Apply for Medical License – After internship + passing your exams.
  6. SHO Year – Senior House Officer post- two rotations of your choice + a community clinic rotation. Required to be eligible for residency programs in Jamaica.
